Linguistically, Fiqh means deep understanding. As a subject it is commonly translated as Islamic Jurisprudence and it refers to the practical application of the Quran and the Sunnah. There are four well known Madhahib, Schools of Fiqh, among the Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama’ah; Maliki, Hanafi, Shafi’i and Hanbali. Here are 7 pieces of advice for the student of Fiqh;
- Learn Etiquettes of Knowledge
- Start with One School of Fiqh.
- Studying a Madhab is NOT taqleed of the Opinion of Scholars
- Study under the guidance of a qualified teacher.
- Start with basic texts.
- Learn step-by-step.
- Do not be biased towards any Madhab or Scholar
